if you use messenger 6.2 with it, you are able to truncate contact nicknames. Good idea for those people who have a bunch of letters in their nick and you don't know who they are! so well, go ahead and check it out.
another programs to keep my computer up are: reg Scrub Xp, disk cleaner (found at www.softonic.com, page in spanish) and ad-aware 6.0

All,
I used Messenger Plus and enjoyed it, however got a trojan.swizz virus from it I believe that was the virus name. It came from lop.com and Symantec's site said that such things come from Messenger Plus. Just my thoughts.
Take Care,
God Bless,
Shanda

Dixy, the same happened to me so I got rid of the program. Lop is a big pain to get rid of but I finally did. I will not redownload it do to this reason.

Didn't get it yet. In fact I don't do any FTPing on Messenger. I do it via email or GCN. Although Messenger Plus 6.2 is nice, it doesn't work with Windows Messenger. It does to a degree but the main features I use Plus for doesn't work with Windows Messenger.

Another great program my guy told me about was Talking Messenger. Which is nice we got it off of JFWLite's website. But ge tthe older version because it works well with jaws. Not sure if the new version works with jaws or not. But when I downloaded the newer version from talking messenger's website I got some kind of program that I never downloaded or install. The program is called power scan and it's a bitch to get off the hard drive. I could easily tell it was spy wear: The program when going into the context menu didn't have a properties link to check where in fact the program is being housed. And I also looked for it in add/remove program in control panel and no such thing. Power Scan opens when Windows starts.

Clairity: Some people are getting mixed up about where the virus came from. MSN Messenger has version 6.2. MSN Plus has 3.20. Someone said MSN Plus 6.2 has a virus, that could probally be MSN Messenger you are talking about. I don't use the FTP on MSN Messenger and I have the updated version. Also if you're getting viruses on MSN Messenger get rid of the program and the virus. There is always a back up plan called Windows Messenger.

Windows messenger is a very evil thing. It kept randomly signing me in in the middle of the night even when I told it not to auto do anything. So had to disable it, that's even more painful. Tried to install MS-Plus because I loved it before but it didn't work or something, maybe doesn't work with the new mSN? I dunno.

hmm, did i forget to tell you that when installing msn plus! disagree the licence agreement? in their website they have instructions on how to remove the sponsor program. Sorry if I didn't say it before

The ftp isn't the one that caries the virus, msn plus's sponsor program does, it's really not a virus, it's a zoo trogen. Now why this sponsor caries trogens is a good question. Both dixy and I got this trogen as she too had mentioned.

Yes, it's not Messenger plus that gets the spyware on your system, but it's sponsor prog, which you don't have to install, during the instalation it will ask you to accept an agreement, if you uncheck the box that says to accept it messenger plus will still install without the sponsor prog and you won't have any problems at all.

wow.... I revisit this post just because it came up on the page as an updated one and now I realize how lame it sounds lol. Other nice freeware though are programs like unlocker (which lets you delete files locked by different windows processes) and the file zilla ftp client and server... it all of course will depend on your needs.

what is a zoo trowgin?

Post 16 by Unreleased Secrets (Zone BBS Addict) on Saturday, 15-Dec-2007 10:37:28

A zoo trojan is an animal trojan! ... not really. No idea. Just wanted to say that messenger plus is indeed a great program, and the latest version, which is 4.50 and works perfect with windows live messenger, is totally totally accessible. I can't think of a future that isn't accesible. Older versions used to be a lot less accessible than the newer ones. I definitely like that program, and the sending sounds feature is just great!

zoo trojan.... hmm, interesting. It can be an imprisoned battle orse . A trojan in computer related terms means a program that makes itself look like another. Its a disguising piece of software that has different purposes. For example, there can be a program called microsoft word.exe . When this is executed, the program will open a port for an attacker to enter the system, and such.
